Objective

CTM was engaged to ensure the smooth transition of all employees from their hostage location to their respective homes. Specifically, CTM’s objectives were:

  • Facilitate the safe return of the kidnapped employees to their respective countries
  • Mitigate risk to all employees throughout the travel process
  • Protect employee identities to avoid unnecessary attention in the days following their release

Solutions

CTM responded quickly to the urgency and sensitivity of the situation, appointing a dedicated project team to manage the repatriation process. This included key personnel coordinating operational, communication, and administrative requirements.

VIP flagging was implemented, notifying airline staff, ground staff, immigration, and customs of each traveler’s VIP status to mitigate risk and ensure employees were accounted for throughout their journey home.

In addition, travel arrangements, including hotel reservations and vehicle transfers, were booked under assumed names to minimize unwanted media attention and keep employees out of the public eye.

Upon release, CTM arranged airport facilitation, including a private family reunion space away from the media, and security escorts for all employees to ensure their safety while awaiting return home.

After employees returned home, CTM followed up with the client to ensure satisfaction and provide closure to the incident.

Outcome

CTM’s ability to initiate, implement, and execute a sophisticated and timely travel management strategy enabled the smooth operation and repatriation of all staff. Our ability to coordinate staff, supplier, and employee schedules across multiple time zones resulted in the return of all travelers.

CTM’s strong supplier relationships and established market share allowed the client to access the best available savings, despite the sensitivity and unique requirements of the situation. All travelers, including three Australians and one New Zealander, were safely returned home, and the families praised the management of the situation.

CTM leveraged its position and network to secure the best possible outcome for the client.
