Kelly’s story

If you’re looking for a better work/life balance, uncapped earnings and complete managerial autonomy, you’ve found it. Work from home or in a CTM office, and enjoy the support of CTM’s global buying power, technology infrastructure and 24/7 service support.

Don’t just take our word for it.

Kelly is an Independent Contractor (IC) for Allure Travel. She manages her own business, her own hours and her own income. Read her story…

what does a typical work day look like for you?

I lead a busy life running a business and having a family. Being an Independent Contractor allows me to have the flexibility to do the things that are important to me like school drop off/pick up, homework time and family dinners. I spend the majority of the day (9am – 3pm) in the office liaising with clients and suppliers, and will utilise transit time in the car to make any additional calls if necessary. After dinner and family time I will usually hop back online and work for a couple hours.

WHAT were your main reasons for leaving an established travel agency and becoming an ic?

Becoming an IC with Allure Travel felt like the natural next step in my career. I was ready to start my own travel business, however I didn’t want the administrative responsibilities or the stresses that come with running your own office.

in your experience, what have been the main benefits of becoming an ic?

The main benefit for me is the flexible working hours. Being able to manage my time allows me to fit everything into my day – I spend time with my family but still service my clients in a professional manner.

Kelly quote 1

what were some of the challenges you experienced in becoming an ic, and how did the allure travel team help you overcome these challenges?

One of the biggest challenges to running my own business was the matter of accessibility; to technology, support, and to the most competitive supplier deals. By working with Allure Travel and CTM, I am able to provide 24-hour service support to my clients, access the most competitive market specials, issue tickets originating outside of Australia, and take advantage of CTM’s global technology platform.

how do you market yourself as an ic in order to grow your client base?

I have not had to actively market myself as my business is generated from client referrals. If you do a good job and have a good client base, word gets around.

what new skills have you developed since becoming an ic?

I’ve developed better ticketing skills and been able to attend more global conferences allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of suppliers and build stronger relationships.

what are some of the PROFESSIONAL and personal achievements you’ve made since becoming an ic?

Allure Travel has a partnership with luxury travel network, Virtuoso. In 2015 I won the Virtuoso Award for “Most Admired Advisor” which was an incredible honour. It was great to get the external recognition of my hard work and efforts. Having the partnership with Virtuoso allows me to offer our clients travel upgrades and services that most travel agencies can’t offer.

what are the benefits of working with the global ctm group?

I’ve had the opportunity to network with Allure Travel and CTM teams around the globe. It is great being able to catch up at conferences and share our expertise and experiences.

in your opinion, what are the key characteristics that make a successful ic?

If you are looking for a job that allows you the flexibility to work around personal commitments, the autonomy to manage your own business and to reap the rewards of your hard work – both financially and personally – then being an IC is the way to go.
