CTM Goes Green with Carbon Offset Program

As part of CTM’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, we have implemented a strategy to measure and offset the carbon emissions generated from our staff air travel with our carbon management partner, Climate Friendly.

Carbon management forms an integral part of CTM’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy. Air travel can compromise up to 90% of a business’ carbon footprint. Through our partnership with Climate Friendly, CTM is able to:

•    create a net zero footprint for all flights undertaken by the company’s staff

•    contribute to building a global clean energy environment

•    support socially and economically beneficial programs in developing countries

So what is carbon offsetting? Put simply, carbon offsetting means to measure the greenhouse gas emissions associated with an activity (e.g. air travel) and, subsequently, buy the equivalent carbon credits from projects that reduce the same amount of carbon emissions as we produce - creating a net zero impact on the atmosphere.

To date, CTM has offset over 575 tonnes of carbon emissions by supporting the following projects:

1)    Brazil Fuel Switching - preservation of the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil
2)    China Wind Power Projects - feeding clean energy into the China electricity grid.

This is the equivalent of removing around 173 cars from Australia’s roads for a year or the annual power consumption of 100 homes.

Climate Friendly is the carbon offsetting partner of choice for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Qantas Group, the Hilton Group, Macquarie Bank, Westpac and the Body Shop.
